Yaphank Energy Storage
Yaphank Energy Storage is a proposed 77 MW, 4-hr battery energy storage facility in Brookhaven, New York, that will power nearly 13,000 homes and positively impact the local economy and community. We look forward to working in partnership with town and county officials, local residents, and business owners on the development of this clean,
beneficial energy project.
LOCATION
Yaphank Energy Storage will be located near the corner of William Floyd Parkway and Ramsey Road in the unincorporated Hamlet of Ridge in central Suffolk County, New York.
INTERCONNECTION
The facility will connect to existing Long Island Power Authority transmission lines located directly to the south of the site. While a utility or large energy user may purchase the output of the facility, the energy itself will flow to nearby businesses and homes.
PROJECT INFORMATION
PROJECT BENEFITS & IMPACTS

Benefits to the Community
Battery energy storage facilities make great neighbors. They are quiet, clean, and safe. Unlike other types of industrial development, they do not pose a strain on public infrastructure, schools, or emergency services. Yaphank Energy Storage will contribute to New York State’s movement to lessen dependence on fossil fuel sources and move toward renewable energy
sources, thereby improving air quality and the environment for
local residents.
Local Economic Impact
Yaphank Energy Storage will be a true “silent revenue generator” that benefits the entire community over several decades. These types of facilities generate local property taxes, which can help fund public schools and infrastructure. They will create approximately 100 local jobs during construction and some long-term jobs once operational. Battery energy storage facilities can also lead to long-term cost savings for consumers by lowering the overall cost of providing electricity and allowing customers to avoid paying premium pricing or “peak demand” rates.
